Mathematics

The Mathematics Area seeks to provide each student with the mathematical skill and understanding necessary for everyday life and with the ability to apply these in practical situations.

In Year 8 an emphasis is placed ensuring students have the basic mathematical skills.

The SMP (11-16) scheme is used as the main resource throughout all years. Students are entered for SMP (11-16) GCSE, administered by the OCR examination boards.

 In addition some students will get the opportunity to take GCSE Statistics in Years 10 and 11.

A variety of teaching methods has been adopted

q       Including group work

q       Projects and computer assisted learning.

q       Homework is set every week to support, reinforce and extend the Mathematics being taught.

q       Each student is encouraged to appreciate the role that mathematics has played in the development of Science and Technology.
